December 2016
A very merry Christmas & prosperous 2016 to all our Friends
Jack Lane

Well we are back to the more normal frantic last minute composition this year. Maybe we will be better organised in 2017 but don't hold your breathe. As is the custom Rosedale News will be on the web atwww.gwsjms.me.uk/xmas14.htm.

Holidays & Awaydays

Not a good year for holidays this year. In fact we have not had a foreign holiday for reasons which will be apparent later on.

We have been fortunate to spend time on trips out and several longer stopovers at Chris and Debs place in Milton Keynes.

This is a much maligned town, often the butt of jokes but we like it. Excellent amenities and lots of open space within minutes of most of the places where folk live.

Lodge Lake

We have enjoyed the surrounding countryside in Buckinghamshire & Northamptonshire with lots of small pubs with good food. We did make the mistake of visiting Bicester Outlet Village which is just full of high end, designer stuff eg a great bargin wrist watch reduced from £3500 to £2800!!

In November we went on a coach trip to Loch Awe in the Trossachs. Unfortunately the weather was somewhat against us but we had a good hotel right by the loch.

On a visit to Inverary we found the local butcher's shop

Gillespie

the preseent incumbent's grandfather kept the guest house where we stayed soon after we were married. Happy memories

Debbie & Chris

Debbie continues working with Network Rail and now Chris has moved to a new job in Milton Keynes. It is just 5 minutes from home by bike so now they both keep fit by cycling to work. He is able to spend more time with the family which is good as their childhood is soon gone.

Mikie is growing fast. He is only 9.5 but already wears 11-12yr clothes and his shoe size is the same as mine.

He recently swam his first full length of the baths so we look forward to doing miles as his dad used to.

Ben & Pudding
Ben is now into his second year at school and is beginning to settle down and work. I think that until recently it was all a game but he was only just 4 when he started school He is doing well. He certainly seems a very self assured lad who certainly lets you know his opinions.
Chris & Debs

This year we will be celebrating Christmas at home becuse Janet feels she cannot be away from her own bed etc until she has had a few more weeks getting used to her new hip. Unfortunately neither Chris & Debs and the boys or Kat & Santi and theirs can come. Debbie's brother is returning to Australia soon after Christmas so she wants time with him and her dad. Kat has to work over the festive season because the babies just don't stop coming.

Work & Hobbies

Well what a year! Not a lot to talk about except doctor’s appointments and hospital visits. Isn’t getting old lovely? Graham came home last December from hospital after a week of treating his inflamed gall bladder. It has taken all year to get through various tests for chest and heart. He has now got a date in early January for a pre-med so he should be getting his op to remove the gall bladder soon.

Day After op

Janet has been holding back her hip replacement operation because of Graham. We couldn’t both be out of action with a dog to take out every day.

On 24 November she went in and now has a new left hip which is behaving very well.

Each day she gets more and more mobile. A marvellous operation. Because she had a spinal block anaesthetic rather than the conventional type, there were no horrible after effects .

Graham continues with his Vice Chairmanship at the the County High School, Leftwich Academy, which was rated Outstanding by Ofsted earlier in the year. The school is now in the top 100 11-16 comprehensive schools in England.

He is also still in charge of finances with Moulton Drama Group as well as looking after the Province of Cheshire website and being Secretary of Weaver Probus Club - Phew! Wouldn't have time for work now.

Janet continues with her usual activities: The Condate Singers and WI. She has tried to give up the Secretary role at WI but there were no other volunteers so she have another year of minutes etc. I’ve told them they must find a new volunteer next year. I have done my whack!

In the spring we had a lovely weekend with Graham’s cousin Gordon and Margaret his wife. They were celebrating their Golden Wedding Anniversary, friends and family all congregated in Goldstone Hall Hotel, near Market Drayton. It is a beautiful old manor house with lovely gardens - and the food wasn’t bad either. All the cousins had a rare old time reminiscing old times. It was great to see some we only seem to see these days at funerals.

Katherine made her move to Inverness in May.

She spent three months commuting back and forth from Glasgow until the boys finished school. They now have a rented house in Inverness and are settled in their new school.

Santi got a transfer to Tesco in Inverness so he is now settled too.

Kat house

They have put an offer in on a lovely house overlooking the Moray Firth and fingers crossed they will get their mortgage. They certainly enjoy the better weather of the east coast - not as much rain as Glasgow but probably colder in winter.

(PS he's lost some weight since this was taken, new belts needed to stop the trousers falling down too)
